KUALA LUMPUR: The secret of a Middle Eastern businessman’s success in Malaysia was uncovered after he was revealed to be exporting illegal sex enhancement products.
The businessman, who is in his 40s, had been smuggling various types of dangerous sex enhancement products which have been banned by international health organisations.
A Health Ministry source said investigations revealed that the businessman had exported his products to Canada, Britain, the United States and several countries in the Middle East.
“His illicit business was busted when a team of Health Ministry enforcement officers recently raided an outlet in Bandar Sunway,” the source told the New Sunday Times.
“Eight enforcement officers carried out a surprise check on the outlet after receiving a tip-off that the premises had been used as a store to export banned products abroad.”
The Middle Eastern businessman denied that he was involved in any illegal activities or had exported ban-ned sex enhancement products abroad.
“The businessman produced a halal certificate which he claimed had been purchased for thousands of ringgit.
“Checks revealed the certificate had not been issued by the Islamic Development Department,” the source disclosed.
“Many of the company’s products had Health Ministry registration numbers which were found to be fake.
“The businessman is believed to have used the false registration numbers to openly export his products.”
It is understood the businessman had been operating in Malaysia for at least six months.
Authorities were reluctant to release further details as it might affect investigations.
“Investigations indicated that most of the exported products had been mixed with various types of dangerous chemicals, including sildenafil, which is the active ingredient of Viagra.
Enforcement officers found six types of sex enhancement and body slimming products.
The seized products are worth about RM200,000 on the local market.
The businessman is being investigated under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and is facing a fine of RM25,000 or a three year prison sentence or both if convicted.
